Hello, dear readers! I’m thrilled to be back from a rejuvenating break, and this time, I have an exhilarating summer escapade to share with you – the enchanting Cannes!
My recent journey to Cannes, the crown jewel of the French Riviera, left me utterly enchanted. It’s a city that beckons with its allure, and I couldn’t resist falling under its spell, momentarily abandoning my writing duties.?
A few years ago, I explored the French Riviera but missed out on Cannes, which is just a short 40-minute hop from Nice, my home base. This year, I decided to dedicate my travels exclusively to Cannes, to uncover the secrets that make it a global sensation.
Following a two-week adventure during our family holiday, I concluded that dedicating just two days is enough for those eager to uncover its allure and renowned attractions, along with its distinctive ambiance and vibe.
La Croisette: A Boulevard of Dreams
Let’s start with the crown jewel – La Croisette! This is my absolute favorite place in the city, boasting the prestigious Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, which plays host to the illustrious Film Festival.
As you stroll along this glamorous boulevard, you’ll encounter designer boutiques, world-class restaurants, and opulent hotels that often showcase luxury cars from around the globe.
La Croisette gracefully hugs the coastline, spanning three kilometers of palm-lined promenades, sandy shores, and captivating historical vistas. A pro tip: When exploring this lengthy boulevard, opt for comfort over style – trust me, your feet will thank you!
Boulevard Jean Hibert: A Local Gem
Heading towards Boulevard Jean Hibert, you’ll discover a hidden gem loved by locals. This quaint street is brimming with charming cafes, sandy beaches, restaurants, boutiques, and a laid-back atmosphere, making it the perfect place to experience Cannes like a true insider.
Mairie de Cannes: The Civic Centerpiece
The Mairie de Cannes stands as the city hall. Located in the old town, it serves as the administrative hub while boasting architectural splendor that’s worth a visit! The building’s grandeur and significance in Cannes’ history make it a must-see spot for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts alike.
Place Bernard Cornut Gentille: A Hidden Oasis
Tucked away from the bustling crowds, Place Bernard Cornut Gentille is a beautiful square in the old town. This charming place is right next to Mairie de Cannes and offers a tranquil escape from the lively atmosphere of the city. With its shaded benches and delightful ambiance, it’s a perfect spot to unwind and soak in the local vibe.
Cannes Le Vieux Port: A Nautical Haven
Le Vieux Port, or the Old Port, is where you’ll find a picturesque collection of sailboats and yachts. Stroll along the quays, take in the sea breeze, and enjoy the beautiful maritime views that the city has to offer.
Cannes Port Pierre Canto: Where Luxury Meets the Sea
Port Pierre Canto is another gem along the coast. Here, you’ll find exclusive yachts, upscale restaurants, and a sophisticated atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to indulge in some people-watching and soak in the glamorous vibes.
Cannes Square du 8 May 1945: A Tribute to History
This is a park located in Palm Beach , overlooking the harbor Pierre Canto with a fantastic view of the bay. This square commemorates an important historical event. Take a moment to explore its significance in your visit, and pay homage to the past.
Cannes Walk of Fame (Star-Studded Floor): A Celestial Experience
Strolling along the Walk of Fame feels like walking among the stars!? Discover the names and handprints of celebrities who have left their mark on this iconic city over the years.
Cannes Old Town: Where Night Comes to Life
The old town is the heart of nocturnal activities, bustling with restaurants and cafes nestled closely together, creating an authentically vibrant atmosphere. It’s home to Cannes’ most delectable dining spots, our nightly haunt. While some eateries require reservations, others welcome walk-ins. Keep in mind that kitchens typically close at 10:00 p.m., so plan your evening accordingly!
Cannes Pyrotechnic Art Festival: A Dazzling Spectacle
Every summer, the city hosts the Pyrotechnic Art Festival, a mesmerizing display of fireworks set to music. This event, held on 14, 21, and 29 July, as well as 7, 15, and 24 August, features six countries competing to win the Silver Vestal.
The show is performed along a 400-meter seafront and watched by thousands of spectators along La Croisette. Each show lasts around 20 minutes, and we had the pleasure of witnessing the grand finale from France and an incredible performance by Switzerland!?
Overall, it was a fantastic and unforgettable experience that added vibrant colors and excitement to our holiday.
Théoule-sur-Mer: A Serene Escape
Just a short distance from Cannes lies Théoule-sur-Mer, a tranquil haven accessible by car or public transport. Its dramatic rocky coastline and crystal-clear beaches offer respite from the summer crowds in Cannes. During our visit, we explored various beaches and sampled local cuisine, providing a delightful departure from the ordinary.
Cuisine and Dining Options in Cannes
This city boasts a wide array of dining establishments to cater to diverse tastes. You can savor everything from delectable seafood to authentic French cuisine or delightful Italian dishes. I found my favorite dining spots along Boulevard Jean Hibert, where many of them overlook the seaside, offering a serene and romantic setting for beachside dinners that were truly enchanting. However, whether you explore La Croisette or the charming old town, you’ll encounter exceptional restaurants and cafés serving some of the finest meals in Cannes.
